Senior Legal Counsel

Job Requisition Number:  14630
Date:  10 Sept 2026
Location:

VIC, AU ST LEONARDS, NSW, AU, 2065

You’re only human.

It’s a strange thing to say, because us humans are capable of incredible things. And at Medibank, we know our greatest potential lies in the people who work with us.

We strive to make real, fundamental change, driven by a simple purpose: to create the best health and wellbeing for all of Australia.

At Medibank, our purpose is simple: better health for better lives. As we continue to grow and transform healthcare through Amplar Health, we're looking for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to lead legal support for our Primary Care portfolio, including Better Medical and emerging digital health initiatives.

This is a highly visible role partnering with senior leaders across Amplar Health to support strategic growth, navigate complex regulatory landscapes and deliver better healthcare outcomes for Australians.

About the role

As the principal lawyer supporting Primary Care, you'll provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice across a diverse and evolving healthcare portfolio. You'll be a trusted adviser to leaders across Amplar Health, Better Medical and related businesses, helping drive key initiatives while managing legal risk in a pragmatic and solutions-focused way.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading legal strategy and risk management for Amplar Health's Primary Care portfolio.
  • Advising on healthcare regulation, clinical governance, practitioner regulation, Medicare compliance and other health law matters.
  • Providing expert advice on consumer law, including marketing, advertising and customer communications.
  • Supporting complex commercial arrangements, particularly those involving healthcare practitioners and service delivery.
  • Advising on privacy, corporate and general commercial law matters.
  • Partnering closely with leaders across Primary Care, Better Medical and digital health initiatives, including online healthcare services and patient platforms.
  • Managing and developing a Legal Counsel direct report.
  • Driving continuous improvement and innovation in legal service delivery.

About you

You're an experienced lawyer who combines strong technical expertise with sound commercial judgement. You enjoy building trusted relationships, working autonomously and influencing outcomes through collaboration rather than hierarchy.

You'll bring:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) and current Australian practising certificate.
  • 10+ years' post-qualification experience gained in-house and/or within a leading commercial law firm.
  • Strong experience advising on complex regulatory and commercial matters, ideally within healthcare, health services or another highly regulated industry.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • A pragmatic, practical and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Experience leading, coaching or mentoring legal professionals.
  • The confidence to operate independently while partnering effectively across a complex business.

Why join us?

You'll join a collaborative, down-to-earth legal team that values expertise, curiosity and partnership. Culture is incredibly important to us, and we're looking for someone who is approachable, adaptable and genuinely enjoys working alongside their stakeholders to solve problems and create better outcomes.

We offer:

  • Flexible ways of working with no mandated office days.
  • A strong focus on health, wellbeing and work-life balance.
  • Meaningful work that contributes to better healthcare outcomes for Australians.
  • A collaborative and supportive environment with opportunities for ongoing growth and development.

This role can be based in Adelaide. We also welcome applications from candidates in other locations who are comfortable travelling regularly to Adelaide to support key stakeholders and business priorities.

If you're looking for an opportunity to apply your legal expertise in a purpose-led organisation that's reshaping healthcare delivery, we'd love to hear from you.
