Senior Manager – Financial Risk & Reporting

 

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced financial & strategic risk as well as reporting professional who is looking to step into an influential specialist role. This position offers the chance to work closely with the Head of Financial Risk, GRC & Reporting, and the wider Enterprise Risk Management hub. In this role, you deliver high quality oversight, analysis and insights that strengthen Medibank’s risk capability and uplift risk culture across the business. 

 

This is a great opportunity to apply strong technical expertise, structured problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills to influence decision-making and support robust financial and strategic risk management. 

 

How you will create value 

 

In this broad and fast paced role, you will apply your advanced risk, reporting and analytical capability to add value to Medibank by: 

 

  • Support the development of an effective financial and strategic risk oversight program including implementation and monitoring of key metrics (including those in the RAS)  

  • Actively identify and support the development of a better financial and strategic risk management practices and elevate financial risk management as a part of Medibank’s ERM framework 

  • Support insightful analysis and reporting of financial risks across the business.  

  • Continuously identify opportunities to enhance the financial risk management policies and procedures.  

  • Proactively share insights and thoughts on an effective risk management 

  • Support Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Processes (ICAAP) tailored to PHI-specific risks such as claims volatility and demographic shifts.  

  • Support the update of the recovery plan, stress testing and scenario analysis reflecting PHI market pressures (e.g. ageing population, affordability challenges).  

  • Assess exposure to market risks arising from investment portfolios held to support health benefit liabilities including oversight of investment managers (internal and external).  

  • Support the review of investment strategies with risk appetite and regulatory constraints, particularly in low-yield environments.  

  • Support the oversight of the liquidity risk frameworks ensuring PHIs maintain sufficient liquid assets to meet claims and operational needs.  

  • Support the validation of liquidity stress scenarios including spikes in claims due to health system shocks or regulatory changes.  

  • Support the ongoing compliance with APRA’s expectations for liquidity management and contingency funding plans, including updating risk taxonomies, control descriptions and develop dashboard to support the GRC system. 

 

About you 

 

You bring strong financial risk and reporting expertise, with experience operating in a regulated environment and supporting enterprise risk management activities. Your ability to simplify complex insights, engage a wide range of stakeholders and influence positive outcomes will be crucial for success in this role. 

 

Other key attributes include: 

 

  • Demonstrated experience in financial risk, strategic risk or enterprise risk management within financial services or a regulated environment. 

  • Strong understanding of risk frameworks, governance practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., APRA prudential standards). 

  • Excellent analytical and reporting capability, with the ability to interpret and clearly present complex technical information. 

  • Good understanding and expertise on good practises related to effective model risk management, including model validation 

  • Experience delivering risk uplift, supporting change initiatives and contributing to the enhancement of risk culture.
