The Opportunity
We’re seeking a Squad Lead - ORM Operations & People Risk to play a key leadership role in strengthening Medibank’s people‑related risk maturity across the enterprise. Sitting within the Group Risk and Compliance function, this role partners closely with senior leaders to provide oversight, insight, and constructive challenge across People Risk domains.
You’ll help shape and embed Medibank’s operational risk and compliance frameworks, uplift data quality and assurance, and support the organisation to make informed, risk‑based decisions. This is a senior role suited to someone with deep operational risk expertise, strong influencing capability, and a passion for building sustainable risk culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide enterprise‑wide oversight, review, and challenge of People risks, including associated obligations
- Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of the Operational Risk Management Framework and Risk Management Strategy
- Act as a trusted subject matter expert to senior leaders, providing expert advice, insight, and challenge
- Lead and facilitate risk assessments, workshops, and control reviews for business initiatives and projects
- Monitor and maintain risk registers, key risk indicators, and assurance activities to ensure risks remain within appetite
- Provide oversight of incident management, including escalation, resolution, and continuous improvement
- Support obligation management activities, including assessments, compliance monitoring, and advisory support
- Prepare and deliver high‑quality reporting to Executive, Board, and governance forums
- Foster strong stakeholder engagement and contribute to embedding a positive, enterprise‑wide risk culture
- Lead and influence cross‑functional resources within an agile, sprint‑based operating model
Must haves:
- Significant experience designing and implementing risk management systems, preferably within Financial Services or Private Health
- Proven experience managing or overseeing People Risk, including areas such as WHS, psychosocial risk, workforce conduct, and payroll or award integrity
- Deep knowledge of operational risk, controls, and compliance obligation frameworks
- Ability to operate effectively in complex, initiative‑driven environments and deliver to agreed timelines
- Experience leading or working within agile, cross‑functional teams
- Strong influencing skills with the credibility to provide effective challenge at senior levels
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex risk information clearly
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non‑technical audiences
- Demonstrated integrity, sound judgement, and commitment to effective risk management
