The Opportunity 

Join Medibank’s Integrated Uplift Program (iUP) as Squad Lead - Controls, a high-impact 12-month opportunity to lead enterprise-wide controls transformation initiatives.  

Reporting to the Hub Lead, Enterprise Controls, you will play a key role in strengthening Medibank’s control environment, driving improvements in risk maturity, operational effectiveness, and sustainable risk management practices.  

This role is suited to a seasoned operational risk professional who thrives in complex transformation environments and enjoys partnering with senior stakeholders to deliver meaningful business outcomes. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the day-to-day delivery of the Controls squad, translating strategic objectives into practical delivery plans, milestones and measurable outcomes.
  • Drive the uplift of Medibank's enterprise control environment, including controls framework enhancement, controls mastery and optimisation initiatives.
  • Improve control effectiveness through the introduction of automated monitoring, continuous controls testing and data-driven insights.
  • Manage delivery risks, dependencies, governance requirements and stakeholder engagement to ensure successful implementation and adoption.
  • Partner with business, risk and governance stakeholders to design and embed practical, sustainable controls that improve risk outcomes.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and direction to squad members while fostering a collaborative, outcomes-focused and evidence-based culture. 

 

Must haves: 

  • 10+ years' experience in senior operational risk, controls, compliance or risk transformation roles, ideally within Financial Services, Private Health Insurance or another highly regulated industry.
  • Proven experience uplifting, implementing and embedding operational risk and compliance frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of operational risk management, controls frameworks, compliance obligations and risk management methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capability, with the ability to drive innovative and practical risk management solutions.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills, with the credibility to challenge constructively and build trusted relationships.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
