The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Squad Lead to play a critical leadership role in strengthening Medibank’s approach to Business Continuity, Third Party, and Legal & Regulatory Risk. Sitting within the Group Risk and Compliance function, this role partners closely with senior leaders across the business to provide trusted insight, oversight, and constructive challenge.

You’ll help embed Medibank’s risk and compliance frameworks, uplift risk maturity, and drive a strong risk culture across the enterprise. This is a high‑impact role suited to someone who thrives in complex environments, brings deep technical expertise, and enjoys influencing outcomes at a senior level.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide enterprise‑wide oversight, review, and challenge of Business Continuity, Third Party, and Legal & Regulatory risks
  • Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of operational risk, compliance, and obligation management frameworks
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on risk assessment, treatment options, and mitigation strategies
  • Lead risk and compliance workshops, including risk assessments for new initiatives, projects, and third‑party arrangements
  • Oversee incident management and ensure timely escalation, resolution, and continuous learning
  • Support and monitor adherence to regulatory obligations and compliance requirements
  • Prepare and deliver clear, insightful reporting to senior governance forums, including Board and Executive committees
  • Foster strong stakeholder engagement and contribute to embedding a positive, organisation‑wide risk culture
  • Lead and influence cross‑functional resources in an agile, sprint‑based delivery environment

 

Must haves:

  • Admitted legal practitioner with 7+ years post‑admission experience, or equivalent senior in‑house regulatory legal experience (financial services or private health highly regarded)
  • Proven experience managing or overseeing legal and regulatory risk in complex environments
  • Strong knowledge of operational risk, compliance, controls, and obligation management frameworks
  • Hands‑on experience influencing senior stakeholders and providing credible challenge
  • Ability to work in fast‑paced, initiative‑driven environments and deliver to agreed timelines
  • Experience leading or contributing to agile, cross‑functional teams
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information clearly
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated integrity, sound judgement, and commitment to effective risk management
