About the opportunity:

Reporting into the General Counsel – Amplar Health + Ventures, a great opportunity has become available for a Senior Legal Counsel – Amplar Health to join the Trust, Legal and Compliance (TLC) team at Medibank.

 

As Senior Legal Counsel – Amplar Health, you will be providing strategic, high quality, timely, cost effective and independent legal services to the Amplar Health business of Medibank. This role has an integral impact on the Amplar Health Legal team, the TLC group and legal services provided to the Medibank group.

 

You will primarily be accountable for Amplar Health strategic business initiatives, encompassing:

 

  • Providing a full range of legal services to the Amplar Health business, with a focus on Amplar Health’s invested health services businesses

 

  • Providing regulatory, corporate and commercial advice relevant to the structuring and implementation of Amplar Health strategic initiatives

 

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements and legal instruments required for the implementation of Amplar Health strategic initiatives

 

  • Supporting investments, responses to tenders and other opportunities for the delivery of new and expanded health services

 

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating services agreements and other commercial agreements with health services customers

 

  • Leading and supervising the design, development and maintenance of Amplar Health tools, templates and other business resources (and associated training)

 

  • Assisting Medibank to operate in accordance with legislative requirements, regulations, and internal policies, and to understand legal risks

 

  • Leading, mentoring, coaching and supporting legal counsel (as applicable, depending on the needs of the business and/or the TLC team).

 

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

 

  • 8+ years’ post qualification experience and substantial experience gained within a large commercial law firm or the in-house legal team of a large or complex organisation

  • Significant exposure to a wide range of areas of commercial legal practice, including experience in commercial contracting, mergers and acquisitions, corporate structuring, private health insurance and health services regulation, privacy law compliance, competition law compliance and intellectual property protection

  • Extensive experience in providing pragmatic, high quality, commercially focused legal services to both operational staff and senior stakeholders, ensuring that advice is trusted and understood

​​​​​​​

  • The proven ability to balance working autonomously and largely unsupervised while in a collaborative team environment, supervising and coaching more junior legal counsel if required and supporting the development and success of other team members

  • The ability to undertake objective and critical analysis, prioritise based on legal risk, navigate through multiple priorities in parallel, and excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and influencing skills.​​​​​​​
