Senior Financial Accountant

The Opportunity – Senior Financial Accountant 

As a Senior Financial Accountant within the Financial Control Division, you will play a key role in supporting the Financial Accounting Manager to ensure the successful delivery of month end, year end and regulatory submissions required by the Financial Accounting team.  

This role is responsible for driving balance sheet strength, financial control governance, and process automation and efficiency across the organisation. 

How you will create value 

In this dynamic role, you will use your strong technical accounting expertise to add value to the Medibank business by: 

• Being responsible for journals and reporting of claims, provisions, accruals, share-based payments, leases, consolidation and other areas as required.. 

• Managing monthly claims accounting process and acting as the key point of contact with actuary and reporting teams. 

• Preparing Payment Times Reporting and quarterly APRA reporting. 

• Preparing and reviewing high-risk and complex balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of outstanding items. 

• Supporting the preparation of half-year and year-end financial statements and responding to external audit queries. 

• Providing coaching and mentoring to team members to build capability and support development. 

• Collaborating across teams on projects impacting the Financial Accounting function. 

• Identifying and reporting on internal control or process inefficiencies and recommending improvements. 

About you 

You are a proactive finance professional with a strong background in financial accounting and a passion for continuous improvement. You bring: 

• A degree in accounting or a related field, with CA/CPA qualification required. 

• At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience in a large organisation. 

• Strong analytical and numerical skills, with a keen eye for detail. 

• Proven experience working with large data sets and ERP systems, preferably SAP. 

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. 

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders. 

• A demonstrated ability to problem-solve, take initiative, and work both independently and collaboratively.
