We strive to make real, fundamental change, driven by a simple purpose: to create the best health and wellbeing for all of Australia.
The Role
The Modern Desktop Specialist is responsible for supporting the day-to-day management of Windows and macOS devices within the organisation.
This includes device onboarding, application deployment, patching, and troubleshooting — primarily using Microsoft Intune. This role ensures that users are equipped with compliant, secure, and reliable devices and contributes to the delivery of a consistent digital workspace experience.
The Responsibilities:
- Support the configuration, enrolment, and deployment of Windows and macOS devices using Microsoft Intune.
- Maintain compliance with device policies and assist with the rollout of configuration profiles and security baselines.
- Monitor the health and status of managed endpoints and respond to issues as they arise.
- Assist with the deployment and packaging of applications (e.g., Win32 apps for Windows, DMG/PKG for macOS).
- Validate application installations and updates, resolving common deployment issues.
- Monitor patch compliance and assist in deploying Windows and macOS updates through Intune and/or PatchMyPC.
- Identify devices with failed updates or outstanding vulnerabilities and escalate where needed.
- Work with the team and the business to coordinate scheduled patch deployments with minimal disruption.
- Provide second-level support for device-related issues and escalate complex problems within the Workplace Engineering team.
- Assist users with onboarding to corporate devices and troubleshooting basic Intune related problems.
- Contribute to device build imaging and setup processes.
- Coordinate, test, and implement IW changes (e.g. software rollouts, policy updates) with minimal business disruption through formal change processes.
- Communicate planned changes to end users and stakeholders, ensuring documentation and scheduling align with TECC and/or CAB governance.
- Respond to and resolve incidents related to end-user devices, applications, and services using tools like Intune.
- Accurately log, prioritize, and escalate issues as needed, ensuring timely updates and resolution for impacted users.
- Identify recurring issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions to reduce incident volumes.
- Maintain and update knowledge articles and known error records to support faster issue resolution across the support team.
- Maintain accurate documentation of build processes, application install guides, and patching procedures.
- Collaborate with IT support, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure cohesive device management operations.
- Provide feedback on recurring issues and suggest improvements to deployment or support workflows.
About You:
- Experience managing Windows 10/11 and macOS in an enterprise environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Intune (Endpoint Manager).
- Familiarity with application deployment and updates for both Windows and macOS platforms.
- Basic scripting knowledge (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for troubleshooting or automation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and customer service orientation.
- Exposure to Autopilot, Apple DEP/ABM, and MDM enrolment workflows.
- Knowledge of endpoint security concepts, patch compliance, and device hardening.
- Experience working with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow.
- Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate.
- Develop and manage device compliance policies and integrate them with Conditional Access to enforce secure access controls.
- Collaborate with identity/security teams to design, test, and implement CA policies that align with organisational security standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Conditional Access and device compliance, ensuring minimal disruption to end-user experience.
