The Opportunity

With support from clinical advisors and member service coordinators, the key role of the Medical Advisor is to provide advice on clinical decisions that require consideration by a medical practitioner.


Key decision areas include:

  • Pre-existing Condition determinations
  • Clinical Ex Gratia requests
  • Accident determinations
  • Clinical review of health information content


Accountabilities of the role include:

  • Supporting the clinical team to complete determinations for Pre-Existing Conditions
  • Supporting the clinical team in evidence-based decision making for complex requests for additional funding for high-cost medications, high-cost disposables, hospital care substitution and non-listed prostheses
  • Supporting quality and risk assessment governance for the publication of clinical and health-related information aimed at Medibank members and the general public
  • Providing clinical support as required for projects & initiatives that have an impact on health outcomes.


This is a part-time role of 0.5 FTE (18.75 hours per week) looking for someone that can ideally work a few hours each day Monday to Friday. This will be a fixed-term contract for 12 months.


About You

You are a doctor with unconditional registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner and at least 3 years of clinical experience. You have strong verbal and interpersonal skills and experience in communicating with other health care providers, stakeholders and health consumers. You can work effectively with cross-functional teams.


Your knowledge of the Private Health Insurance industry (PHI) and PHI funding principles is desirable but not essential for the role.
