The Opportunity

As Manager – Capital and Reserving within the Actuarial and Investment Services Team, you will work with the Squad Lead Capital and Reserving in managing all aspects of claims estimation, reporting (Statutory and Regulatory) and capital (ICAAP) management. In this role, responsibility also includes having two actuarial analysts as direct reports and managing their workload. 

 

How you will create value

In this broad ranging role, you will manage all aspects of claims estimation, reporting and capital (ICAAP) management, this will include:

  • Ensuring stakeholders and regulators receive regular reporting prior to deadlines.
  • Acquiring and maintaining a complete understanding of Medibank’s systems, processes and controls.
  • Managing the engagement with and support of key stakeholders in the setting of claims estimates including presentation and justification of key assumptions and results.
  • Supporting the ICAAP within Medibank (both statutory and regulatory reporting, stress testing and scenario analysis, Asset Allocation, Board engagement).
  • Development of capital forecasts for the Corporate Plan, Premium Round submission, ICAAP report and quarterly ICC capital papers.
  • Maintain a robust regulatory reporting process.
  • Provide leadership on data analysis and modelling projects to other team members.
  • Provide organisational leadership in the understanding of claims liabilities and capital adequacy, their reporting and metrics, and their key drivers
  • Adhere to Medibank’s integrity standards.

 

About You

You will have a proven leadership record having managed teams successfully in the past.   As well as being technically strong you will also need to foster a brand of being a “trusted advisor” through collaborative engagement with stakeholders and high-quality outputs.     

 

Other key requirements include:

  • Analytics, actuarial, statistics qualifications; preferably Associate member of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (or similar overseas actuarial body).
  • Over 8 years of experience in advanced financial, statistical and other business-related quantitative analyses with highly developed spreadsheet design skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of capital adequacy/standards and reserving within the insurance industry (preferably health insurance).
  • Ability to lead and mentor fellow team members.
  • Knowledge of R, SQL and visualisation tools e.g. Tableau.
