Date:  06-Oct-2021
Location:

DOCKLANDS, VIC, AU, 3008

Will you actively create a healthier future for tomorrow?

At Medibank we’re encouraged to think big. We have a clear purpose to impact better health outcomes for our customers, patients and our community.

We celebrate diversity of thought because we want to make better decisions for our customers. As we work towards our goal of better health for better lives, we value the knowledge and contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. We are working hard to create an inclusive workplace and develop Indigenous careers.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Legal, Technology and Operations, the Legal Counsel, Technology and Operations will provide strategic, high quality, timely and cost-effective legal services primarily to the Technology and Operations division of Medibank. This division incorporates IT, Procurement, Property and Operations.

This role has a mix of project, transactional and ‘business as usual’ work, with a focus on IT and procurement contracts, and the management of property work completed by an external firm. You will apply your knowledge of contract and IP law, taking into account vendor positions, changing industry norms and new technology.

Your impact

Acting as an advisor to an ASX-listed company, you will provide legal services that are independent and of the highest professional standard. You will:

  • Advise the Technology and Operations division, delivering commercially focussed, cost-effective and independent legal services
  • Negotiate, draft and advise on IT and commercial contracts
  • Provide legal support for IT and procurement projects
  • Manage external law firms
  • Assist Medibank to operate in accordance with legislative requirements, regulations and internal policies, and to understand legal risks.

About You

You have a passion for the interface of technology and law, with experience in technology and procurement contracts and projects, including tenders, outsourcings, IT system implementations and cloud-based IT services.

Having previously worked in a similar corporate environment (directly or through secondments), you are proficient in the delivery of legal services and confident in your ability to work independently or in teams, as needed.

You have excellent relationship management skills, build trusted relationships and enjoy collaborating with others to achieve the organisation’s goals.

In addition to the above you will have:

  • A Bachelor of Laws and admission to practise in Australia, preferably with approximately PQE of 5 years or more.
  • Solid experience with IT contracts and related aspects of IP law.
  • The ability to act independently and provide commercially focussed legal advice to stakeholders at varying levels of seniority.
  • Strong presentation skills, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate legal issues to non-lawyers and ensure that advice is trusted and understood.
  • Good judgment and creativity to resolve complex issues, including through appropriate escalation.

Experience in property transactions and APRA regulation would be well regarded but is not essential.

A career with us

The wellbeing of our employees is our priority. We encourage you to talk to us about any adjustments or additional support you may require during the recruitment process, as well as how this role can be flexible for you. Virtual interviews are always on offer and will not adversely impact your application.
