Location: Melbourne (hybrid) 

Team: Performance, Architecture & Innovation (PAI) 

About the role:

Medibank’s PAI team is seeking a Lead Architect – Data to shape and deliver our enterprise data platform strategy. You’ll lead architecture for operational data, analytics, governance and integration, translating business strategy into secure, scalable, high-performance data capabilities that accelerate customer outcomes across Insurance and Health.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead architectural direction for Medibank’s data platforms, ensuring scalability, security, resiliency and performance across operational, analytical, governance and integration domains.
• Develop and maintain data architecture roadmaps, reference patterns and target states aligned to enterprise strategy and delivery priorities.
• Partner with Architecture Squad and senior stakeholders to translate business needs into pragmatic data platform strategies and solutions.
• Contribute to architecture OKRs, KPIs and scorecards for data capabilities and support annual strategic planning and investment prioritisation.
• Identify and assess emerging data, cloud, analytics and integration technologies; maintain an innovation radar and promote high‑value use cases.
• Contribute to enterprise architecture governance, standards, policies and guardrails (including regulatory frameworks such as APRA CPS 220/230).
• Drive knowledge management: maintain catalogues, registers and diagrams; publish key platform artefacts to secure awareness and adoption.
• Support cross-squad capacity planning, remove delivery roadblocks and ensure architecture support for critical programs.
• Ensure risks for data platforms are identified, assessed and managed; support compliance and continuous improvement.
• Champion data-driven customer experience, translating strategy into market-ready capabilities that improve engagement, satisfaction and retention.
• Provide thought leadership across data platforms, analytics, integration and business intelligence.

What we’re looking for

• 7+ years delivering solution/enterprise architecture in complex organisations.
• Demonstrated experience leading and uplifting architecture teams.
• Strong strategic thinking with ability to convert business strategy into roadmaps and target architectures.
• Deep knowledge of enterprise architecture practices (e.g. TOGAF, SAFe) and practical application.
• Experience with integration patterns (APIs, SOA, microservices), information management, analytics and SaaS.
• Proven background in cloud, infrastructure, networks, backups and End User Computing (including M365).
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills; experience developing architecture standards and guardrails.

Desirable

• Experience in insurance, health or ASX-listed organisations.
• Familiarity with AWS/Azure/GCP, BI tools (Tableau, Power BI), CRM/ERP (Salesforce, SAP), identity platforms (Auth0, Microsoft Entra), OAuth/MFA, middleware/integration patterns.
• Financial modelling, cost-benefit analysis and risk management experience.
