Lead Architect - Cloud & Infra

About the role

Medibank’s Performance, Architecture, & Innovation (PAI) team is seeking an experienced Lead Architect – Cloud & Infra to drive the architecture and strategic planning for our cloud, networking, end-user computing and M365 platforms. You will own architecture roadmaps, standards and governance, partner with senior stakeholders across the organisation, and lead capability uplift to deliver secure, scalable, resilient and high‑performing infrastructure platforms that enable business outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architectural direction for cloud and infrastructure platforms (cloud services, networking, EUC, backups, M365), ensuring scalability, security, resilience and performance.
• Develop and maintain architecture roadmaps, patterns and target states aligned to enterprise strategy and delivery priorities.
• Translate business needs into actionable cloud and infrastructure strategies and solutions; advise on lifecycle, investment prioritisation and capability planning.
• Contribute to architecture OKRs, KPIs and scorecards; track performance and continually optimise cost, value and performance.
• Identify and assess emerging technologies and innovation opportunities; contribute to the emerging technology radar and use‑case tracking.
• Maintain and evolve standards, policies and guardrails (including regulatory frameworks such as APRA CPS 220/230) to support operational resilience and compliance.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with senior business and technology stakeholders; represent infrastructure architecture across enterprise initiatives, committees and communities.
• Identify and manage risks for cloud and infrastructure platforms; support remediation and continuous improvement.
• Produce and publish domain artefacts (catalogues, registers, diagrams); ensure knowledge assets are identified, maintained and promoted for effective adoption.
• Support cross-squad capacity planning, remove delivery roadblocks and ensure architecture support for critical programs and projects.
• Advocate for and apply human‑centred and contemporary thinking across workplace technologies and operational resilience.

What we’re looking for

Must haves:

• 7+ years’ experience delivering business‑outcome focused solutions and/or architecture in complex corporate environments.
• Experience in AWS and Microsoft 365
• Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring architecture teams (senior/lead/solution architects)
• Strong strategic thinking; ability to convert business strategy into pragmatic architecture, roadmaps and target states.
• Proven delivery of target state architectures and incremental roadmaps enabling strategic capabilities.
• Deep understanding of enterprise/solution architecture practices, standards and methodologies (e.g. TOGAF, SAFe).
• Experience in business and technology modelling, capability models, reference architectures and process design.
• Strong knowledge of application and technology architecture, SaaS models, integration approaches (APIs, microservices), information management and analytics.
• Proven experience designing and implementing infrastructure, cloud services, networks, backups and EUC (including M365).
• Strong stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation skills.
• Experience developing and maintaining architecture standards, guidelines and guardrails.

Desirable

• Experience in insurance, health or ASX-listed environments.
• Hands-on or deep knowledge of cloud-native design and platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation), and cloud service models (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS).
• Networking experience (VPN, ExpressRoute, virtual networks) and storage solutions (on‑prem and cloud).
• Experience with cloud migration programs, observability platforms (e.g. Splunk, ServiceNow).
• Understanding of security (IAM, data protection) and financial modelling/cost optimisation.
