The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Fraud Investigator to join us here at Medibank, in a newly created permanent position.

This role will be responsible for preparing mitigation recommendations across areas of complex fraud and will be responsible for the identification, review and assessment of genuine members, synthetic members and staff ensure compliance with our recognition criteria, Fund Rules and industry standards.

The focus of the role will be to continuously identify patterns and trends, provide and share insight with team and stakeholders to improve operations with focus on efficiencies and interpret industry best practise in fraud investigation to minimise future loss and mitigate business risk.

 

Day to day this role will see you: 

  • Deciding if your day is best spent working from home or the office (we don’t go for mandated office attendance days here at Medibank but will see you come in for team meetings, offsites, etc).
  • Undertaking intelligence led and data driven identification of irregular internal and external claiming and policy activity.
  • Conducting objective, thorough, fair and unbiased investigations within set timeframes and adhering to the principles of natural justice and procedural fairness.
  • Collating relevant, factual evidence to be used for the assessment of the investigation.
  • Managing judicial process and outcomes, including referral of alleged fraud matters to the relevant authorities, under the guidance for the Medibank Police Referral Procedure.
  • Proactively identify and act on continuous improvement opportunities in day to day activities and successfully collaborate with team members.
  • Taking time out to recharge – you might hit the pavement for a walking meeting with a colleague, pop out to a lunchtime gym class or take a mid morning meditation break.  
  • We also have huge focus on health and wellbeing, and expect you to have the same. For us, this means flexible work and continuous improvement to our ways of working. This team is currently trialling a 4 day work week which means putting tools down and using the extra time to focus on something to improve your personal health and wellbeing.

 

What do we need from you?

First and foremost, you’ll need to be passionate about fraud and have demonstrated experience working in the industry. You’ll be able to manage having multiple complex cases at any one time, and work autonomously in doing this (though there is lots of support from your team and Manager when you need it!). You will need to be a data driven and have a very keen eye for detail – accuracy and thoroughness are key. You’ll be a whizz at Excel, comfortable with interpreting and manipulating data as required and SaS or similar fraud analytics tools experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
