About the Role , 

We are seeking an experienced Delivery Lead to lead a major enterprise Data Modernisation Program focused on the migration of an existing AWS-based data platform to a modern Lakehouse architecture leveraging cloud-native technologies. 

This is a highly visible role that sits at the intersection of delivery leadership, data engineering, architecture, and business stakeholder management. You will be responsible for driving execution across multiple workstreams, ensuring successful delivery of a complex data platform transformation while managing risks, dependencies, vendors, and stakeholder expectations.  

The successful candidate will bring deep experience delivering large-scale data and analytics programs and will be comfortable leading highly technical teams through complex cloud-based transformations.  

Key Responsibilities:

Delivery Leadership 

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of a large-scale data modernisation program.
• Drive planning, execution, governance, and reporting across multiple delivery streams. 
• Manage program risks, dependencies, issues, and delivery milestones. 
• Establish and maintain Scaled Agile delivery practices and delivery governance frameworks. 
• Ensure successful execution of migration waves, cutover activities, and transition to the target platform.
• Manage program budgets, resource plans, and financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with approved funding, delivery objectives, and business outcomes
• Partner with business and technology stakeholders to support organisational readiness, adoption, operational transition, and successful onboarding to the target platform. 

Stakeholder & Vendor Management 

• Partner closely with engineering teams, architects, product owners, business stakeholders, and senior leadership. 
• Manage delivery across external vendors, systems integrators, and professional services partners. 
• Track contractual deliverables, knowledge transfer activities, and key delivery outcomes. 
• Provide clear, concise reporting and executive-level updates. 
• Data Platform Transformation 
• Coordinate delivery of data platform migration activities, including validation, testing, cutover planning, and legacy platform decommissioning. 
• Support evaluation and implementation of modern cloud data platform capabilities. 
• Ensure robust delivery controls across data quality, governance, security, and compliance requirements. 
• Drive adoption of DataOps, automation, and modern delivery practices to improve delivery quality and operational efficiency 
   

What We're Looking For:

Essential Experience 

• Proven experience leading delivery for Data Engineering, Data Platform, or Analytics teams, rather than general software delivery teams.
• Strong experience delivering large-scale data modernisation and cloud migration programs, including migration from legacy data platforms to modern cloud-based lakehouse architectures.
• Demonstrated experience planning and executing complex data migrations, including:  
• Data validation and reconciliation
• Parallel-run approaches
• Cutover planning
• Legacy platform decommissioning

Strong understanding of AWS data platform services and cloud-native data architectures, including: 

• Redshift
• EMR
• Glue
• MWAA
• Kinesis
• S3 
• Experience delivering programs involving Databricks or comparable modern cloud data platforms. with a strong understanding of modern data platform architectures, governance, security, and operational considerations. 

Strong knowledge of:  

• DataOps practices
• CI/CD for data pipelines
• Data quality frameworks and controls
• Infrastructure-as-Code approaches
• Experience managing systems integrators, technology vendors, and professional services partners.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across technical teams, business stakeholders, and executive leadership.

Strong delivery discipline with demonstrated capability in: 

• Risk management
• Dependency management
• Governance
• Agile delivery execution
• Experience operating in highly regulated environments where data security, privacy, governance, and compliance are critical. 

Highly Regarded:

• Experience evaluating or implementing modern cloud data platforms.
• Exposure to enterprise-scale data governance and security frameworks.
• Experience within financial services, healthcare, insurance, or similarly regulated industries.
• Understanding of modern lakehouse architecture patterns and cloud-native data platforms.
