The role:

The Head of Data Governance has overall responsibility for the enterprise Data Governance outcomes for Medibank. Reporting directly to the Senior Executive of Information Management and leading a small dynamic team of data stewards. The team working under the direction of the Head of Data Governance will consist of onsite permanent and contract resources, who work alongside our Security, Audit, Compliance, Legal, Technology and Business teams. The Head of Data Governance will manage the data governance framework aligned to Medibank’s risk appetite and regulatory standards.


Where you can add value

This includes, but are not limited to:

  • Data Governance – Strategy, Planning, oversight, program evaluation, risk assessment, controls identification, testing and management of data; the use of data and data-related resources and for Data Governance Framework, data governance tools and technologies, including metadata, data quality, master and reference data solutions.
  • Leadership - driving Medibank’s IM strategies by continuously promoting awareness of data governance risks and issues
  • Business engagement – Engaging senior business stakeholders to understand their data objectives and usage, and driving data governance strategies and approach that facilitates business success while building in controls to protect Medibank and our customers’ data
  • Thought Leadership - providing thought leadership across all technology and data related issues.
  • Metadata - collecting, categorizing, maintaining, integrating, controlling, managing, and delivering meta-data.
  • Information Asset Management – defining the enterprise information ownership and asset register. Including defining the business and technical owners to ensure accountability and resolution of data issues in source.
  • Data Quality oversight of the completeness and accuracy of data for reporting and analytical purposes.
  • Data Privacy and Security - preserving the security and privacy of Medibank’s data.
  • .Master & Reference – ensuring integrity of master and reference data practises that lead to optimised business outcomes


About you

 You will be an experienced leader within the data governance space and have extensive experience in formulating a data governance strategy and framework as well as executing it. You will have proven experience in engaging senior business stakeholders and in implementing data controls designed to mitigate risk in a data environment and to a very high standard. You will play a key role in managing the audit and vendor relationships as well as completing audits and vendor delivery.


With expertise in the following areas;

  • Significant experience and skills with Data Governance tools and technologies. 7 years +
  • Deep understanding of data governance frameworks and practises, with focus on cloud solutions
  • Management of master and reference data solutions
