The Opportunity


The Compensation Officer is responsible for ensuring that claims paid by Medibank and ahm which are otherwise payable by a third-party insurer or as part of a common law settlement are identified and recovered. 


How will you add value?


In the longer term, the role will assist in implementing strategies to ensure that compensable claims, where possible, are not paid by Medibank and ahm from the outset.


 Key Accountabilities

  • Proactively manage a portfolio of Compensation cases
  • Follow processes and procedures designed to maximize compensation claims recoveries and to prevent payment of compensation-related claims in the first instance
  • Project work related to the continuous improvement of processes and procedures
  • Working with external stakeholders (Solicitors, Providers, Insurers etc.) to effectively manage compensable claims and ensure timely resolution
  • Proactively engage and support Members with potential compensable claims, to ensure awareness regarding their obligations and available avenues 
  • Telephone and written communications and liaison with third-party insurers, medical and ancillary providers, Solicitors, and members to recover compensable claims
  • Assisting the Compensation Team Lead in the development of processes and systems
  • Reporting to and liaison with the Compensation Team Leader
  • Other duties as may be required from time to time


About you


With a large proportion of the Compensation portfolio requiring liaison with Solicitors acting on behalf of our Members, this role is best suited to someone with an interest in building upon their stakeholder engagement and relationships skills.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in building and managing long-term relationships
  • A self-motivated and positive disposition, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong excel skills and is comfortable with data and high-level analysis
  • A 'can do’ attitude and a curious and enthusiastic approach to your work
