The Role
The Applications Analyst is responsible for maintaining and updating solutions and enablers that facilitate efficient operation of Medibank’s Health & Insurance Services business.
The purpose of this role is to deliver and maintain some Application solutions enabling highly scalable, reliable and secure digital assets. The role spans all aspects of SDLC and will work closely with stakeholders and peers to understand requirements, undertake design configure, engage in deployment activities, and provide maintenance and support.
The role will report into the IT Applications Team Lead work in a cross-functional team contributing key experience with set targets to cross-skill in other capabilities and be able to take on other functions within the team to deliver quality, cost effective and "fit for purpose" solutions within agreed timelines.
The Responsibilities:
- Improving system quality by identifying issues and common patterns, and developing standard operating procedures
- Enhancing applications by identifying opportunities for improvement, making recommendations and designing and implementing systems
- Liaising with colleagues to implement technical designs
- Investigating and using new technologies where relevant
- Improve and maintain system documentation (Support guides and Architectural design documents)
- Assess functional solutions against system stability, security and performance of the application suite
- Identify opportunities to implement tools and practices that enhance automation and drive long-term operational efficiency.
- Ensure delivered solutions do not result in incidents and problems, and if they do, own and drive the resolution with a sense of urgency taking customer impacts and organisation reputation into account
- Provide expert guidance in the resolution of incidents within your competency domain.
- Ensure timely responses and ticket resolution in line with Medibank SLAs
- Adhere to SLA’s established to monitor application health by developing and using effective tools and metrics
- Work collaboratively with business stakeholders and technology teams and external vendors to support service delivery
- Ensure service and product quality is always maintained at the highest level and is aligned with business needs.
- Liaise with IT vendors and suppliers as required.
- Perform application deployments in both production and non-production environments when required. Ensuring Medibank standards, methodologies and processes are adhered to.
- Develop and maintain Process and Procedures required for support purposes.
- Use Agile and DevOps principles and practices to manage the backlog, plan and monitor delivery in accordance with sprints set during Quarterly Planning (QP)
- Provide On call services as per business requirements (24/7 per roster)
- Ensure cross-systems dependencies are understood, socialised and managed
- Look for opportunities to improve efficiency of processes and solutions shared across multiple streams through refinement and maturity of key processes
- Provide ongoing health checks on the Applications to ensure agreed expectations and outcomes are met
- Proactively monitor and report on system performance and health
- Maintain applications within remit in line with asset lifecycle management plans (e.g. hardware refresh, licensing, application upgrades)
- Ensure application component currency levels are understood and maintained for applications in your competency domain
- Maintain an effective plan to manage application (non-O/S) vulnerabilities
- Ensure a current Application Disaster recovery plan is in place for the required applications in your competency domain.
About You:
- Must have most of the following:
- Experience in working with most elements of the following technology stack:
- MS Windows core services
- VMware
- Citrix XenApp
- OpenText Content Server
- SharePoint, ServiceNOW, Salesforce, Oracle WebLogic server and Web Content Server
- Enterprise monitoring tools (Nagios/Solarwinds/Splunk) Scripting, e.g ASP.NET/ apache/ Ruby/ PowerShell/ SQL/ Automation processes Working knowledge of ServiceNOW
- MS/PostgreSQL
- Apache Tomcat
- Java
- HTML5
- Python/Perl
- Powerscript
- Experience working in Linux and Windows Server environments
- Experience in an agile environment responding to evolving business needs and adapting quickly and effectively.
- Experience working in a cross-functional, collaborative team environment
- Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills
- Experience and ability to work on multiple concurrent projects and tasks
- Demonstrated experience in process improvement
- Demonstrated understanding and implementation of ITIL processes
- Experience working in large project groups
- Well-developed knowledge of Service Management practices and processes
- Previous experience providing application focused support roles
- Some experience in leading process improvement and issue resolution
- Ability to work autonomously
- Any additional experience working with the following toolset:
- Atlassian stack – BitBucket (Git), JIRA, Confluence
- Jenkins
- ServiceNOW
- Splunk / Sumologic
- JAMS
- Cloud Solution (AWS, Azure)
