The Opportunity  

 

As a Funding Specialist joining Medibank, you will use your proven experience with data and analytics to support how Medibank funds healthcare services. You will help design and improve funding models that deliver better health outcomes for members, while managing costs and supporting sustainable provider partnerships.  

 

What the person will do: 

 

  • Analyse and improve healthcare funding models to support better outcomes, performance, and cost management. 

  • Use data and insights to evaluate initiatives, predict impacts, and provide clear, practical recommendations. 

  • Act as the analytics key subject matter expert for healthcare funding models used to purchase hospital-based services. 

  • Partner with teams across Medibank (including contracting, finance, and data science) to design and deliver funding strategies. 

  • Support hospital contract negotiations with modelling, insights, and subject matter expertise. 

  • Research relevant literature and keep abreast of new domestic and international funding model developments to inform next generation improvements and opportunities. 

  • Engage, consult and build productive working relationships with external stakeholders (hospitals, IHACPA) to seek feedback on proposed models and refine designs to accommodate mutually beneficial outcomes. 

  • Develop reporting, KPIs, and evaluation frameworks to monitor funding performance and identify risks and opportunities. 

 

Key skills/strengths: 

 

We are looking for a senior data and analytics professional who has proven funding experience in a similar role in the healthcare industry.  

 

You will also have:  

  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to work with complex data. 

  • Ability to translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations. 

  • Collaborative mindset, with confidence working across multiple teams and stakeholders. 

  • Clear and engaging communication skills (written and verbal). 

  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving. 

  • Experience in SAS and SQL programmin
